Botanics Cleansing Balm

I have heard a lot about cleansig balms after reading Caroline Hiron's blog & so decided I should probably try one. Cleansing balms are pretty expensive though so I thought I'd try this one from Boots Botanics. It's the Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm & it's only £8 so I wasn't expecting great things if I'm honest. I just wanted to see if there was anything to this whole cleansing balm thing. So, what do I think of it?

First off the cleansing balm is a soild, oil based cleanser in a tub. I would compare it to what happens to melted butter/lard when you put it in the freezer except that this is solid until you touch it. Or leave it on the window ledge in direct sunlight when the temperature is above 30 degrees. Small things.
The cleansing balm comes with a muslin cloth but I have to be honest it wasn't very good. Not that I really bought the balm for the cloth...
Anyway, I find that this balm is great for removing my makeup, even mascara. It does leave a slight residue - even if you cleanse with something else afterwards - so this isn't particuarly good for mornings. Seriously, makeup basically melts off my face if I use this on a morning. If you have super dry skin this might actually do your skin good but otherwise not a morning cleanser.

However as an evening cleanser it's lovely. Really moisturising, good level of cleanse & your skin feels so soft in the mornings it's amazing! I did feel like this wasn't so good for times when I was breaking out but if your skin is normal-dry & rarely breaks out or only breaks out at certain times of the month etc it'd probably be good.

So, Good Points:
  • Affordable
  • Lots of natural 'all good' ingredients
  • Removes makeup well
  • Moisturises well
  • Softens skin
Bad Points
  • Not for mornings - causes makeup to melt
  • The muslin seemed like a waste
  • Leaves a residue
Would I buy it again?
Honestly? No. Not because it's bad beause it totally isn't. It's great for evenings. But I don't wash my face on an evening I wash it on a morning (if you want to know why read my skincare routine post). This stuff is not a morning cleanser & I have a feeling no cleansing balm is which is really disapointing. If this is anything to go by cleansing balms are amazing...

  1. Nice review, nice to hear the bad points about a product too!
