Casual Wheelchair Fashion: A How To

A while ago I kind of bumped into a convo @Ixzianna & @mindmagicnatter were having on twitter. They were talking about how hard it is to look as fabulous as you want to in a wheelchair.
I have always thought that sitting down is the main problem, sitting is crazy unflattering because clothes are designed to be stood in. Most of the time wheelchair users don't sit ramrod straight in their chairs (for all kinds of reasons, I sit like that because it's less exhausting) which exacerbates all the problems of sitting. You can be the most stunning person in the world but still look disproportionate when sat awkwardly. So what clothes can you wear to combat the problem?

When I went into this post I thought I was going to write a 'do this, don't do that' like the hundreds of articles we've all seen on 'how to dress for your shape'. My understanding of clothes & how to dress my body comes from a thousand Gok Wan re-runs talking about bodies as apples and pears and hourglasses like something out of Alice in Wonderland. This stuff worked for me as a teenager (in the days before my chair), it built me back up from a shy, uncomfortable teenager who'd been told too often that she was fat & that her clothes were ugly into someone who was able to wear clothes as armour.
The problem is this stuff doesn't work for wheelchair users. It's not just a matter of "apples, pears, hourglasses and, oh yes, those on wheels". There's guidelines I guess, "don't wear a huge flowy satin ball gown" being one of them (satin is shiny & makes it hard not to slip off the chair & all that fabric is bound to get caught in your wheels) but I'm pretty sure there is no-one who wears huge flowy satin ball gowns for casual anyway...

I think my main problem is that these are my 'casual clothes', this is what I wear when I'm not all dressed up (& I usually only get properly dressed two or three times a month). I used to wear casual clothes, one of the things I aimed to achieve in the early days of my M.E. was getting dressed every day, but it has been a lot of years & even more flares since then. I don't even change my pjs every day anymore. I've gone back through my old posts & tagged all my casual outfits so you can find them easily but as you can see, it's been a while.

The best advice I can give you can be simplified into 4 tips:

Buy from places you can return things to easily
I get most of my clothes online (for so many reasons) & I have totally learnt this the hard way, mostly ordering clothes from America that would have cost more to send back than I would have got in the refund. I call it a learning moment (although it doesn't seem to teach me not to do it again) but it can be quite dispiriting...as well as making your bank balance angry with you lol. Even trying things on in the shop isn't an exact science so I always like to be able to return things.

Get your clothes altered (if necessary)
Everyone has their own personal bugbears with how clothes made for 'regular' people don't fit right (mine is skirt lengths) & most of these can be fixed. Where I live there are loads of shops that just do alterations on clothes & I think there are even places online. If you explain what you want doing they are usually more than happy to help.

Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!
However carefully you pick clothes they aren't necessarily going to look quite right in a wheelchair. There's not much you can do about it....except accessorising. You can't imagine how many outfits I have saved by adding a belt or a super cute necklace.

Most importantly...
Follow as many wheelchair users who post ootd/full body selfies as possible
Wheelchair user are massively under-represented so it can be hard to see yourself. I get a lot of my outfit inspiration from outfits I see other people wearing & it's much easier to come up with outfits that work in a wheelchair if you see outfits that work in a wheelchair. Does that make sense?

The best thing I can do now is introduce you to some wheelchair users with AMAZING fashion sense.

Let me introduce you to Cat. I think I first came across Cat back in my Tumblr days, before I even had a proper blog. It wasn't until I started following her on Instagram however that I realised how much I adore her style. Like I knew but I didn't KNOW.
I think part of the reason I love her style so much is that it reminds me of my black clothes years. I don't wear black much anymore (I don't like it much & I feel like it kind of merges me back into my chair) but I used to be a total emo/goth/scene-girl teenager. I was never as cool as I thought though & definitely not as cool as Cat Sierra.
So, in my opinion the things that make Cat Sierra's style work so well in a wheelchair is that she keeps all the 'bulk' up top (also her awesome taste in jackets). Please keep in mind that I am not a fashion expert so when I give an analysis I have no idea what I'm talking about but I think one of the important things in a wheelchair is that if you are going to have volume in your outfit, have it on the top OR the bottom, not both.
I also think that Cat makes the all black theme work, it looks super chic  it gives a look of....you know that 'fashion rule' where you are supposed to wear the same colour of shoes as your tights? I feel like all black fashion is like the ultimate expansion of that, although the pops of colour are the coolest part of it for me, there is nothing quite as cool as a monochrome look with something bright & cool & chic like the jackets in these pictures.
These are the links to Cat's twitter, instagram, her etsy shop (where she sells really cool enamel pins) & to her GoFundMe where she is raising money for a foldable powerchair. Go follow her :)

My next introduction is Robyn Lambird. I also first came across Robyn in my Tumblr days but she's even cooler now than she was back then. Wheelchair athlete, style icon & disability activist there seriously seems to be no end to the awesomeness of Robyn Lambird. I'm focusing on her style though & seriously it is so cool. I'm pretty certain I have never been this cool and it's hard to narrow down exactly why her style is so cool. Part of it is the effortlessness, part of it is the cool androgonous...ness? of it & part of it is that it always looks like really cool active-wear street style.
Mostly though it's the fact that her style is everything I am scared to wear in a wheelchair.
I guess everyone has their fashion fears & mine is this cool, effortless, relaxed look. I place so many rules on my style because I'm terrified that I'm going to look like a sack of shit with a string tied around the middle (mostly because I do, seriously the reason I wear high waisted skirts is that underneath them it looks like I shoved a very large, very sad, bean bag under my top). It's totally a wheelchair based fashion fear, I was much more casual before I became a wheelchair user & I actually didn't wear that many skirts (pretty much just this really cool tiered tulle mini skirt from H&M that I adored, it was purple & it drove the head of my 6th form crazy) but the wheelchair changes things & it lead to me accessing a very different part of my style :) Seeing wheelchair users dressed like this makes me so happy.
So what makes her style work so well? Well Robyn's signature look is actually a wheelchair user standby - baggy tops & tighter bottoms with comfortable shoes. The thing that makes her look so special is that she injects so much personality into it; there is nothing shy about the way she dresses & that's good! It's interesting, Robyn rarely wears colours that are especially in your face or even very bold patterns but the way she puts things together impels you to be aware of her. Part of it is the clothes but I would say that part of it is 'The Beyonce Factor', just simply being awesome & knowing it. Not exactly helpful I know.
Another part of what makes Robyn's style work so well is that she breaks all kinds of 'rules'. I mean if anyone was going to write a set of Rules for wheelchair fashion I'm pretty sure one of the big ones would say no short skirts, especially not without tight/leggings. But as Robyn proves in the first picture, it's not so much what you are wearing as how you wear it.
You can find Robyn on her Youtube, InstagramTwitter & Tumblr. I totally recommend following her on as many of these as possible :)

This is mermaiddisguised. A while ago I was looking for other wheelchair users who did fashion &/or beauty blogging (I was feeling kind of like the odd one out) & I ended up coming across Beth. Just knowing Beth was out there made me feel more confident as a blogger, I wasn't alone anymore & I would credit it with a lot of the braver things I have done as a blogger.
Representation in action :)
Beth doesn't post quite as many outfit posts as some of the others but I love her style, it is the perfect combo of comfortable & cute. It's kind of my approach to casual fashion- simple-ish, classy clothes, loose tops, tight bottoms & comfortable shoes - but much MUCH cuter :) It's weird, because this is so close to what I would choose to wear it is hard for me to break it down....
The reason I wear my clothes baggy on top & tighter on the bottom is that I carry my weight in my stomach & butt so that when I gained all my I'm-comfort-eating-retaining-water-and-not-moving-that-much weight it was easy to hide with baggy tops (or high waisted skirts). It's a pretty good look even if you don't have any extra weight to mask because it tends to sit pretty well in a wheelchair.
Why Beth in particular? I don't know really...there is an element of that kind of ineffable Parisian Chic-ness to it - simple pieces worn in interesting & appealing ways. About the most helpful thing I could possibly have said huh? I guess that's just my jam today :)
Her hair is also always really cute which totally helps (a good hair cut can make a big difference).
You also totally have to check out her blog it's a lot of fun & a good read. You can also find her on instagram, twitter & facebook.

Finally Sitting_Pretty. I love Rebekah, she is the person I want to be when I grow up (possibly merged with Bianca Del Rio and Marlene Dietrich...which would also be the coolest, most badass kind of Manticore ever). One of the things I lost through my M.E. was my voice, not my physical voice but my writing voice. I was never going to write the next best seller or the next prize winning piece of investigative journalism but I wrote really good essays & it is this skill that I miss the most, more than walking. reading & getting dressed by myself. I lost the voice my brain spoke in & it feels weird every day. Partly that is why I love Rebekah's feed so much, for every single selfie she posts there is a wonderfully crafted pocket memoir, essay...I don't know what to call it, a wonderful piece of writing that blurs the lines between poetry & simple exposition.
Don't get me wrong though, Rebekah's style is also super cool. It's got that great ModCloth geek t-shirt vibe (if that makes any sense to anyone but me). This is yet another style that I ADORE but would never wear - mostly because these cool geeky t-shirts usually come in high neck styles that make me look 90% boob &/or they don't come in big enough sizes to get past my boobs....plus the sad beanbag that is my stomach would be way too visible. However there is something really cool about wearing something as simple as a t-shirt & making it look put together & pretty. Plus there is nothing better than a really cool geek-y t-shirt.
Whilst it is really simple (& I'm sure Rebekah didn't spend an hour putting her looks together) there are a few little tricks being employed her that make it work especially well.
First, the t-shirts are over-sized. This is subtle, 'womens' fit t-shirts are usually designed to be worn skin tight but these are maybe a size bigger than that, possibly two? Perfect sizing because it sits better in the chair & honestly it's also a lot comfier than form fitting clothes.
Second, she tends to pair them with tighter bottoms. Yes I have gone on about this one a bit, it's not a required wheelchair user fashion thing but it really does look good & makes putting together outfits easier.
Finally, she carries it all with confidence. Rebekah always seems to be ready to take on the world & honestly she could wear one of those big yellow IKEA bags & she would still look amazing because she presents as being so confident.
Find Rebekah on her instagram, on her website & on many guest posts around the web.

To sum up:
Wheelchair fashion, much like all fashion, is subjective. It depends on your tastes, your body shape & your personality (as well as how forgiving your bank balance is). As with many things in life there are no hard and fast rules, what you like & you feel good in is going to work better than anything I recommend.
However what I have gleaned from looking at many MANY wheelchair users' ootds is as follows:

  • Cute hair styles help, as does liberal application of hair dye
  • Larger tops & tighter bottoms (in a clothing sense, my mum has a dirty mind & made this sentence seem gross)
  • Dress for you, people who say crap things are saying more about them than they are about you
It can be hard being confident in who you are & what you are wearing, especially when so many people feel they need to talk shit. My Grandma (mum's mum) is a total bitch about this, she's been telling me I'm too fat for as long as I can remember & it got even worse after I got sick & started using the wheelchair, she has said some truly unforgivable things. Her words really used to chip away at my confidence & self esteem making me feel disgusting.
I would say it wasn't until I started doing outfit posts that I managed to develop some confidence in myself & my body & I would totally recommend it to anyone, wheelchair user or not, who is not feeling body/style confident. The internet is not a 100% positive place but it does contain a lot of wonderful, supportive people & there is very little better than the friends you can make online & the support they can offer.

M.E. Fashion: Sleeping Beauty

Do you guys remember last year when I took part in the team princess M.E. awareness event organised by Queenie Sian? Well it's M.E. awareness month & I'm taking part again.

The idea behind team princess is that we M.E. sufferers have a lot in common with the fairy tale princess, many of us are trapped in our castles, sleeping for a thousand years or 'just' cursed. There isn't a cure for M.E. or even a treatment but you can help with our isolation.

Like last year I'm not having a individual team princess fundraising page but the charity I am recommending is the Smile for M.E. charity who specialise in sending happy mail to M.E. sufferers, I can't even explain how much of a difference happy mail can make.
You could also donate to Gemma who is raising money for a wheelchair she desperately needs.

I'm not sure why but May is a time of year when I get extra tired, which I guess makes it a perfect time to do an everyday fashion post. Or at least, my everyday fashion....which is pjs these days. Seriously M.E. lends itself to such a glamorous lifestyle lol.

I wanted to make this outfit even more realistic than my last sleeping beauty look which was cute but an idealised look at M.E. This is still not super realistic, I feel uncomfortable not wearing makeup when I am doing photos so I am wearing makeup. And I don't usually sleep on top of a pretty blanket with sunlight flooding in my windows & I never sleep on my back because I find that really uncomfortable....
Eh, realism is over rated lmao.

Last time I did a sleeping beauty look I talked about bedridden days, the days when even basic things are nearly impossible & all stimuli are overwhelming. I don't really have anything to add to that, it explained it pretty near perfectly so I thought that this time I could talk about 'normal' days.

When I say normal days I mean the days, like today, when I am out of bed but I'm hurting, the days when I'm struggling to do anything but doing nothing feels like a torture. Normal sounds wrong, even to me. I feel like I should call them bad days or awful days but they account for at least 70% of my life, however much I wish they didn't.

Normal days. For me these are the pea-soup-er fog kind of days, the grey days where everything is done whilst fighting through a molasses of fatigue (kind of mixing my metaphors there but you get my drift). These are the days when doing 5, 10 minutes of colouring can leave me breathless & with so much pain in my arm that I am struggling not to cry. Where hearing the postman can be so overwhelming I have to stop everything for a few minutes.
They can also be the days where the fatigue hides, telling me that I am doing really well until I suddenly realise I can hardly move from the exhaustion & I am somewhere I can't rest.

I would say I mess up most on my 'normal' days, the days when I'm too tired to remember to be careful or to properly access what energy I have left but I have too much energy to be comfortable in bed. (I'm a terrible patient, if I'm not too tired to move I HAVE to be doing things or I go insane! And not even a little thing, I have to be using at least two senses e.g. hearing & sight or sight & touch.)

Not every spoonie has these days; 25% of M.E. sufferers would consider those days a good day, a once in a blue moon kind of day that made it possible to survive. I try to remember that when I am feeling drowned by a never ending string of 'normal' & bedridden days but I guess you can only live in your skin.

I was honestly hoping to do a more upbeat M.E. post to counterbalance this - & I will hopefully get to write that soon - but my brain has been about as useful as old spaghetti recently & I barely managed to write this in time.

Wheelchair Fashion: Harvest Fog

I think the best bit of Autumn is the early morning fog when all the leaves are turning & the world is perfectly still. I was lucky enough to get out into the fog one morning last week & (whilst the fog is heavy to breathe) it was awesome. I'm actually thinking of making an autumn bucket list just so I can cross off that morning :)

Anywho, this is my new winter coat :) The year before I got sick I got my first grown up winter coat. It cost more than I could afford but it was going to last me for years so it was worth it....& then I got sick & it stopped fitting me (I gained weight & regardless it was too long to be comfortable in the wheelchair). Ever since then I have been trying to find another coat as perfect as that one that I got all those years ago.....
I'm hoping that this one will be the coat I've been searching for. It's got a large enough zipper pull that I can zip up my own coat, it's big enough that I've got space to get larger (or wear a couple of jumpers), it's warm, the hood is cosy, I love the colour, the texture of the fabric is amazing, the faux fur is soft & fluffy & I love the toggles.

P.S. If anyone has any advice on how to take good photos in the fog I would really appreciate them, I could get okay ones of me but when I tried to take photos of things further away I really struggled....

Wheelchair Fashion: Lavender Heatwave

Oh my gosh the heat is ridiculous! I used to love heat, honestly right up until this year I had greeted the approach of hot, summer weather with much joy.
This year however my body seems to have fallen out with the heat & the warmer it gets the more my joints swell up & the worse my back pain gets. Plus it draws the benefits tourists across the street out of their houses to make excessive noise until 11/12 at night making it impossible to rest!

One good thing about the heat though is the necessity to leave the house, leave the city & get somewhere with a stiff breeze & air that doesn't taste of sweat (you know what I'm talking about).

Wednesday (when the temperature got as high as 30 degrees C!) we all packed up & went to Yorkshire Lavender. I've posted an ootd taken at Yorkshire Lavender before with more of a review of the tea room so I won't bother to do one this time but let's just say the quality hasn't diminished (even though the number of coach parties seems to have increased).

Everyday Fashion: Sleeping Beauty

May is M.E. awareness month & this year I am taking part in the Team Princess awareness campaign & this year I will be doing 'Princess' ootds for the whole of May (today included ^^). If you want to learn more about the campaign this post & this facebook page are a good starting place & this is the just giving page that has been set up.

This week I have persistently done way too much for my body to cope with & also not enough to make me feel like I have achieved anything. Getting my hair cut on Thursday (something I hadn't managed since November, not ideal for someone with a pixie cut) was the final straw & my week long attempts to get a 'proper' ootd post done crumbled. As a substitute I am doing a prettied up version of me on my bad days (& when I say prettied up I mean the difference between the women in magazines & women in real life kind of prettied up).

On my bad days I am usually bedridden except for infrequent - & very slow - trips to the bathroom.

Wheelchair Fashion: Easter Casual

My gosh has this week passed in a blur of 'huh?'. I literally didn't know today was Easter until a couple of hours ago - good thing I don't buy Easter eggs - & thought today was Wednesday, meaning I still had days to write this post, right up until that moment so this is going to be short & sweet. (Meaning short, possibly incoherent but full of pictures cause I've already edited those ^^)

Wheelchair Fashion: Jet Set Eleganza Realness

Hieee, I'm back ladies & all things being equal I don't feel too much worse for wear (although I filled out a form on Monday & was wiped for the rest of the day, screens, focusing & logic are a total beeyatches).

Anyway I've been watching A LOT of RuPaul's Drag Race during the flare - it's been pretty much the only TV I could cope with without getting over tired - including the new season & I have been gagging to do a drag OOTD post for you all.
Well here I am doing a look inspired by the runway challenge the queens had to do at the end of the second episode of the new season.

The challenge was 'Jet Set Eleganza' & I had to wonder if a single one of these queens had ever been on a plane because

Wheelchair Fashion: Frozen 60s

I hadn't realised until I started editing these pictures how many of my outfits recently have included stripes, my next outfit will either be all stripes or no stripes ^^

Tuesday I looked out of my window & saw bright sunshine & thought 'oh good, the weather is picking up' so out came my most 'spring is about to spring' outfit (a.k.a. a light weight jumper, no layers & no coat) & got my mum to load up the car....

That is ice all around the water spout btw, it may have been sunny but the weather had not picked up & it was NOT as warm as it looked.
Lets just say I was out taking photos for less time than it had taken me to get my shoes on & A LOT less time than it had taken me to put my makeup on ^^

In my head this is kind of a 60s fashion meets Parisian meets modern nautical-ish spring fashion...making it a very convoluted vision for such a simple 'I wish it was spring already' outfit.

I am so ready for spring. I am over jumpers & layers & cold weather & super ready for pretty summer dresses, spring flowers & warm sunny days with just a touch of a breeze....only one of which is really a part of a Yorkshire spring lmao.

Wheelchair Fashion: Walk in the Park

It is getting so cold out now that there is no way to take an outfit photo outdoors without thermals & a lot of layers so this is that kind of outfit. I kind of wanted to call it 'Walk in the Park Realness', the way outfits on RuPaul's drag race are 'evil hench woman realness' or 'dog park realness' but then that normally means that there is no realness involved lol ^^
I have been getting into RuPaul's drag race in a big way better late than never & have been going more drag with my makeup. You probably can't tell I these pictures but I have contoured like CRAZY. I had to answer the door part way through my contouring & I had stripes of grey & super pale concealer all over my face....the postman was majorly confused ^^

Wheelchair Fashion: Vintage Camera & New Tattoo

So, I'm showing off my 3 cool new things in one post: my film slr, my tattoo & this camera print scarf ^^

I'm not 100% happy with how the pictures turned out but it's difficult to take any ootd pictures in winter so I posted these anyway....

Wheelchair Fashion: Winter Coat

My brain is mush & I'm looking at these pictures thinking, "Wow, why did I go through 3 outfits before I decided on this one?". I should totally have other things to say but I can think of nothing....

Edge of Autumn Wheelchair Fashion (+ Bird of Prey Centre)

This was supposed to be a wheelchair fashion post the week I posted the 'how to make your mobile phone photos look fancy' post but I was obviously too out of it then.
That Wednesday was such a fun day :) I had been trying to fit in a trip to a bird of prey centre all summer & I finally pushed my family into doing it that Wednesday ^^
I am totally a bird of prey person, if it was even a tiny bit realistic I would have a Harris Hawk as a pet :) I live in the inner city however so, apart from the Red Kites that I sometimes see hunting ariund Leeds & the Sparrow Hawk who hunts our garden during hard winters, bird of prey centres are the closest I get ^^
It was also very much the cusp of Autumn (Or Fall) so I thought I'd do an autumn ootd, something that I've been looking forward to for a while. Once I see the first leaves turning brown & you get the first few puffs of autumn-y wind I get an unbelivable need to pull out all my knitwear, warm toned clothing & boots. Not that autumn clothes are my favourites or anything :)

Wheelchair Fashion: Scarborough Day Out

Probably about two weeks ago (when it was really, really warm & the coast seemed like an amazing idea) my family went to Scarborough. Beachwear in Yorkshire usually involves jumpers, even in the middle of summer, so no bikinis & short shorts here. No practically sheer 'beach cover-ups' either.
The only real 'beach wear' options open to me then were boho or a classic Capri pants type look. This kind of supposed to merge the two...

Wheelchair Fashion: Hazy Summer Days

Summer wheelchair fashion bright floral joy skirt khaki zara shirt

Louche Giselle Skirt Zara Khaki Shirt Wheelchair Fashion

How nice has the weather been lately? These pictures were taken on an evening last week & I am so in love with the hazy effect the bright light & dappled shadow produced. Isn't it cute?

You may have noticed that I am totally in love with full midi skirts in soft fabrics. Unfortunately they're not that common despite this season's obsession with midi skirts. They are really uncommon in any colour that's not black (or maybe gingham).

When I was last shopping a lady working in Joy helped me search & she pulled this skirt.

Wheelchair Fashion: Yorkshire Lavender

Hi everyone. How nice has the weather been? I actually have a touch of natural tan. How freaky is that? I've not had a natural tan since I was 10!
Anyway, yesterday we decided to make the most of the wonderful weather & headed out to Yorkshire Lavender which is this lovely lavender farm/garden near Castle Howard. I've been wanting to take pictures there for AGES, it couldn't be a more perfect background. The tea rooms there are also awesome, stay to the end for my review of that too ^^

Flare Fashion: What I've Been Wearing

Hi this is Sally's Mum so don't blame Sally if its not up to her usual standard. She is flaring badly at the moment and is struggling to get out of bed but sheer boredom drove her from her room and she took the opportunity to get some photos of the kind of clothes she wears when she is too tired to get 'properly' dressed. The sunglasses are because she is light sensitive at the moment not because she is avoiding paparazzi.
Her make up is very basic because Sally was teaching me how to put minimal make up on her for when she gets too ill to put on her own. She was very polite about my efforts but will need to be desperate before she hands over her make up to me.
Sally is doing some challenges on Instagram if you want to catch up with her there.
Sally is desperately saving any energy she can muster so she can attend a Blogger Meet-up in Leeds on Saturday, and will be there, dead or alive, even if only briefly. She is definitely getting cabin fever and is desperate to leave the house, do something fun and talk to someone other than me!

I imagine Sally will edit (completely rewrite) the post once she is feeling better, so keep an eye out for the new and improved version.

Wheelchair Fashion: Mint & Floral Semi-Casual

Wheelchair user wearing next jeans and taylor swift keds.

I really need to get better at writing the random information you add into wheelchair fashion posts, I always feel super awkward....does anyone really read this stuff?

Anyway, I took these photos yesterday in York (if you look close you can see the shaken & slightly battered look in my eyes after ALL THOSE COBBLES!!!!). York has a food festival on at the moment & I was really happy to be able to go to a food festival during the week when it wouldn't be so busy. Unfortunately because it was during the week & therefore not so busy the food festival wasn't as interesting as I'm sure it would be on a weekend or possibly even today. Today however I am resting ready for IMATS ^^

Wheelchair Fashion: Parisian Basics

Everyone has a favourite style, something that they admire in outfits & attempt to emulate. For me that is....simple? Classic?
I like outfits that are minimal but also beautiful; a combination of elements that work together so well it looks organic, like the outfit just happened the way flowers & mountains & trees just happen. Yeah, I know, aim for the impossible why don't I but that is what I like...
When I talk about that kind of style I call it Parisian - effortless Parisian chic...
Honestly, that kind of style is difficult for me to achieve in my wheelchair. Possibly because I am still learning the ropes but honestly? I think it's more than that. In a wheelchair there are no clean lines & I don't really know how to explain that statement right now (I'll probably do a more detailed post in the future when I have more energy) but believe me when I say sitting down can take an outfit from "OMG" to "ehhh, it'll do" faster than you could possibly believe. The simpler the outfit the faster it happens.
My way of getting around it, the way that I think is working for me, is investing in my basics. Making sure that the fabric is as nice as possible so that - even when I am sat down - the fabric hangs nicely.

Wheelchair Fashion: Summer Sunshine

Wow, I really should wear lipstick when I take outfit photos, my lips look grey in these!
I took these outfit photos during the amazing weather we had last weekend. We went out for a morning picnic (which is the best time for me to do anything) & it seemed to be the best possible time to wear my tulle skirt again. I swear it was made for weather like this...it's light, pretty & makes me feel like I should be in some kind girly, 50's musical version of a summer picnic.

Please whilst I do a musical number....
