Quarterly Favourites: 03/15 - 06/15

I realised I haven't done a beauty post in an AGE! I only really wear makeup for ootd posts & when I go to powerchair football these days so I don't buy a lot of new makeup (I'm trying to use up my old stores) & I have such short hair that I don't really do any styling :)

I think the only new makeup I've bought in an age is the Illamasqua Gel Sculpt which is supposed to be this wonder product for contouring.....

Wheelchair Fashion: Jet Set Eleganza Realness

Hieee, I'm back ladies & all things being equal I don't feel too much worse for wear (although I filled out a form on Monday & was wiped for the rest of the day, screens, focusing & logic are a total beeyatches).

Anyway I've been watching A LOT of RuPaul's Drag Race during the flare - it's been pretty much the only TV I could cope with without getting over tired - including the new season & I have been gagging to do a drag OOTD post for you all.
Well here I am doing a look inspired by the runway challenge the queens had to do at the end of the second episode of the new season.

The challenge was 'Jet Set Eleganza' & I had to wonder if a single one of these queens had ever been on a plane because

Quarterly Beauty Favourites: 09/14 - 12/14

Hi everyone. I've been thinking about the way I do product reviews. I post so infrequently that it seems a waste to do a post that reviews just one product, or at least it does to me. That's when I remembered the favourites videos I used to do on youtube where I'd do mini reviews of a bunch of products I'd been liking recently & since I organise my blog photos quarterly I decided to do quarterly favourites. You could also think of them seasonal favourites, so these would wind up being my Autumn-Early Winter favourites... Or I could witter on more & really annoy everyone ^^

I thought I would start with the hair dye I use as I forgot to include it in the group photo (is it just me or does this background look really cute?).

Review: No7 Christmas Palettes

I realised a few months ago that I have been buying makeup WAY faster than I've been using it & that - however much I love buying makeup - something had to change. There was no way I was going to be able to use my makeup any faster so I probably had to stop buying.
You would be really proud of me, I had managed more than a month, almost two!.....and then the Christmas collections came out & I lost all sense.

I think the problem is that Christmas is when all the best palettes & sets come out & they are my true weakness. I have probably 20 palettes or gift sets that I keep looking at as if my staring at them will suddenly make them appear in my makeup collection...and yes I know that is crazy ^^
But in reality I don't know what I would do with all that makeup so I limited myself to one palette...and somehow ended up with two.

Makeup with Purple Hair

Hi guys, I am so happy to be back to blogging! I thought I'd open with a makeup post & there have been some changes in my go to makeup.
Whilst I have been away from blogging I dyed my hair purple, a kind of burgundy meets violet purple, & as such the colours I use in my makeup routine have changed a little. My usual makeup was warm toned - peaches, gold toned neutrals, warm red browns - with pops of colour. Now my hair is slightly more on the cool, purple side those colours are clashing a little. Not so much that I have to replace all my makeup but just enough that I needed to make a few changes.

Anatomical Eye Products: Puffy the Eye Bag Slayer & Eye Cream, You Scream

You know how on ASOS you can put things in your 'save for later' & they expire after 60 days of being in your 'save for later'? I don't know about you but I have the terrible habit of putting things in my save for later over & over again & never getting around to buying them. Things where I'm interested & would like to try them but really I need a bit of a push.

These eye patches/masks or whatever were like that. I knew I didn't NEED them so I kept hovering & hovering, undecided until I opened up my Blog Yorkshire gift bag & found one.

Anatomicals is a really funky brand that do skincare (& I think body washes & hair care) quite affordably aimed at teenagers & students mostly.

OCC Tint - Tinted Moisturiser for Pale, Pale People

OCC Tint Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Tinted Moisturizer

I'm finally getting round to reviewing some of the goodies I bought myself at IMATS, it's only taken me what...a month? Whatever.

With all this amazing weather (the UK has been CRAZY warm, even Yorkshire has had temperatures above 20 C) I've been wanting to wear lighter & lighter bases & I'm sure I'm not the only one! My problem is that lighter bases usually come in less colours & rarely come corpse coloured....like me ^^
OCC is a brand that doesn't have a problem with pale,

IMATS - my experience & haul

This is the last time I am going to talk about IMATS honest. Last year when I went to IMATS I was really starting to realise that my illness is degenerating & I was honestly doing less & less. I was scared to make things worse, I felt like it wasn't worth taking risks. Then I went to IMATS having planned for about six seconds (I decided to go 2 days before IMATS) & IMATS was amazing. It honest to goodness changed everything about the way I deal with being ill. Every risk I've taken, every event I've been to, every time I've left the house after 6pm...all of that can be attributed to IMATS. That first IMATS meant the world to me & every IMATS will be a confirmation that there are risks worth taking & that I have to live my life whilst I still can. So that's why I have not shut up about it.
So anyway, I went to IMATS on Saturday, did a lot of shopping & saw some really interesting talks...the things you do at IMATS.

IMATS Tag

IMATS Tag Photo from IMATS London 2013
Image from last years IMATS post
With IMATS (the international makeup artist trade show) coming up this weekend I am getting kind of over excited....I'm pretty sure this will be the last year I'm going to be able to do this ^^ Anyway I noticed this Tag on Chocolate & Lipstick & I thought it would be a super fun way to get pumped for IMATS ^^

1. Which IMATS are you attending?

London 2014 IMATS that's coming up this weekend. I'm going on the Saturday - a.k.a. the best day to go when everyone is there & none of the stalls have started to run out of stock.

2. Have you ever been to IMATS before?

I went to IMATS last year - the post about it is here - & had an amazing time but I was really too shy to talk to anyone.

Crabtree & Evelyn Handy Tips Event (And mini brand review)

Wow I am super late with this post, I managed to get it done in less than a month which is pretty good going considering how crappy I've been feeling lol.
Okay so about two weeks ago I got to go my very first blogger event - which was super cool - run by the lovely people at Crabtree & Evelyn for their 'Handy Tips' event.
The 'Handy Tips' event is based around the concept of passing down knowledge & beauty advise through the generations & generally about being part of a beauty community I guess. In each store they have like a huge cardboard tree & you can write a tip on a leaf which gets stuck to the tree and then you get £5 voucher & entry into some big prize draw for a family photography experience.

Lip Product Addict Tag

Lipsticks were the first makeup products I fell in love with. Red lipsticks mostly. It kind of spread from there though until the point now where I have a whole draw of lip products..... I kind of feel like this tag was made for me. And I was actually tagged & everything! The lovely Lindalgirl from acolourfulmess.com actually tagged me when she did this tag.
This tag was actually invented by EssieButton & AmeliaLiana in a YouTube video & has kind of developed into a blog tag too.

Question 1: Favourite balm/treatment

Crabtree & Evelyn Lip Butters.

Over-night Skin Saviours

Some things are worth investing in: leather jackets, good wool coats, wheelchairs, camera lenses and skincare. Perhaps not in that order but I am standing by that list (with the possible addition of makeup brushes & good quality bras...but they're alternates, they didn't make the squad.)
So, now you know my priorities in life I should probably tell you about this trio of products. The combination of these three miracle workers have kept my skin amazing & velvety smooth for a whole month (which has like, NEVER happened before).

Sunday Post: Events & their Consequences

I was a very lucky blogger this week, I got to go to TWO blogger events. My first two ever, both in one week. As you can imagine my M.E. wasn't especially happy about this & has been making me pay but it was SO worth it.
The first event I got to go to was the Crabtree & Evelyn #crabtreehandytips blogger event on Wednesday in the store they have in Victoria Quarter. I have SO much to tell you guys about this event but I'm going to hold as much of it in as possible for the blog post (coming soon) but lets just say that I have developed a huge obsession,

Primer Perfection - High-End & Budget

I never think of myself as a primer person, but then when I was moving rooms I realised that I actually have an amazing number of primers. The problem is I've never found one I really liked using. Until now.
Life being life, I've now found two stunning, very different primers. In two very different price ranges; one that costs £11 & one that costs £28, one that makes you look radiant & one that makes makeup apply better than I have ever had makeup apply. One for perfecting under makeup and one for perfecting makeup.

I'm going to start with the Hocus Focus primer from Soap & Glory. You've got to love a brand that has such cool product names & you've really got to love a brand that creates such amazing products.

Review: Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Pencils

Does anyone else remember when these came out how disappointing the shade range was? There was I think one neutral shades & a black, a blue and a purple....something like that. That seemed to be enough for most people to discount them.
I know I did.
But then I used them in my chronically ill prom tutorial, I noticed that there are a LOT more shades now & there's a matte formula too.
So, what are these like? Were we wrong to write them off?

Beauty Essentials

Have I mentioned that we are moving rooms? I have? It's been really boring? Tough, it's kind of all consuming at the minute. Currently my brother is homeless, my room is full of the things that had been in his room & what will be my new room...well it's not pretty.
Tonight is the last time I'll have room of my own until my new room is finished (thursday/friday) so I've put together a basket of the stuff I don't want to be without.....so erm, that's what this post is.

Sunday Post: Room Moving Mania

Most images from my instagram
I've had a stupid week with the room moving & the 'renovating'. It is driving me nuts, I'm not sure how I am managing so well...I have yet to flare badly, collapse or have waking dreams. I've even been able to do some basic cooking to help out (I made French toast for my brother & salmon tacos for tea yesterday, so when I said basic cooking I really meant it).

Anyway, other than the room moving I've had a good week,

Selfridges Beauty Project

Screenshot from the Selfridges website, not my picture.

We are currently switching bedrooms (3 ways which sounds complicated but it's actually the easiest way) & it is bedlam at the moment. I haven't been able to get out to take an outfit photo this week so instead I'm going to post about something that is happening at the moment.

Selfridges launched their 'beauty project' yesterday & it is AMAZING!

Selfridges has set up a 6 week programme based around beauty: what it means, what impact it has, beauty tips, beauty & gender identity, beauty in different ethnic groups, beauty in society, beauty as a means of self expression, beauty & feminism. You pick a beauty related issue & they have a panel on it (with a glaring exception of beauty & disability but I'm cutting them some slack, what they are doing is amazing, they can't deal with all the big issues in one go).

I can't make any of the events/debates (they are often on an evening, far from where I live & either during the room moving or during my foster brother's exams). However I have spent enough time perusing the events calendar that I have a few thousand recommendations that you guys might want to try to get to.

How to Post with Blogger's Block - Beauty Blogger

I sat down at my laptop this morning, took a long look at my screen and realised that I didn't have any products I wanted to write about. I mean I have been using products still - obviously - but none of them are super exciting you know? They fulfil their purpose but they aren't so exciting I want to review them you know?

So what do you do when you don't have anything to review?

  1. Write a wishlist - as beauty bloggers there is always something we are lusting over, so post about it.
  2. Post about part of your routine - it can be morning, evening, makeup, skincare, hair care whatever. It could even be what you do when you check your makeup in the bathrooms at work.
