Lip Product Addict Tag

Lipsticks were the first makeup products I fell in love with. Red lipsticks mostly. It kind of spread from there though until the point now where I have a whole draw of lip products..... I kind of feel like this tag was made for me. And I was actually tagged & everything! The lovely Lindalgirl from acolourfulmess.com actually tagged me when she did this tag.
This tag was actually invented by EssieButton & AmeliaLiana in a YouTube video & has kind of developed into a blog tag too.

Question 1: Favourite balm/treatment

Crabtree & Evelyn Lip Butters.

I used to be obsessed with the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm & I still like that lip balm but it's in a pot & it's super annoying to use after about the first week.
The Crabtree & Evelyn Lip Butters are in squeezy tubes which makes them much easier to use plus they come in 3 different scents/flavours - vanilla crème brûlée, the barely scented 'gardeners' one with SPF 15 & citron crème & honey (my favourite one). And you know, they are super moisturising, absorb really quickly & are full of things like shea butter & lanolin & beeswax & about a hundred plant oils & butters (not literally 100 but like, a lot.)

Question 2: Best Eye-Catching Red

Lipstick Queen Heavy Metal Lipstick in Red Metal

Okay this one is a bit of a weird lipstick - it's the third one from the bottom in the picture above - & I actually haven't worn this lipstick outside yet. Possibly because it's a light red & it's metallic & glittery & generally a little over-the-top for me.... You can so tell it's was gotten for me by my foster brother...it's the sort of makeup that boys think girls wear but that girls never actually do (like blue eyeshadow).
But it is definitely my most eye-catching red...it is like a 1950s Sci-Fi movie red. I'm definitely taking this with me when I go to world-con.

Question 3: Best Luxury & Best 'Drugstore'

Hourglass Femme Rouge in Icon & L'Oreal L'Extraodinaire Liquid Lipstick in 500 Molto Mauve

Okay, erm I'm just totally going to gloss over the L'Oreal liquid lipstick because I have done a whole review of that already & talked about it LOADS.
The Hourglass Femme Rouge lipstick is what luxury lipsticks SHOULD be like. I as I mentioned in my top 5 red lipsticks I love the colour of the Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Icon but the formula is getting on my nerves.
The formula of this lipstick however is freaking amazing. It is genuinely butter-y & pigmented & yet it really sticks to the lips in the best way possible. It's like the PERFECT really dark red for me, a shade I have been searching for for yonks...much darker than it looks in the picture below.

Question 4: Best MAC?

Mac Russian Red Matte Lipstick

I am honestly not a big fan of MAC lipsticks. It think they are kind of over-hyped & I really don't get most of the formulations. However MAC Russian Red is one of the first red lipsticks I ever bought for myself & it is still a total classic. If you are new to proper red lipsticks you can't really beat Russian Red, it is a really pretty deep true red that lasts for ever on the lips.

Question 5: Most Disappointing?

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balms (bottom row of swatches in picture above)

This is another product like the MAC lipsticks that just didn't get on with me. I had heard so much about these lip balms (they were a favourite of a YouTube-r I used to follow - she stopped doing videos quite a while ago) & had really expected them to be great & at first they were.
Then I don't know, my lips started peeling when I was using them & drying out & they just weren't working for me, which is not what you would expect from a Burt's Bees Lip Balm you know?

Question 6: Liner - Yes or No?

100% yes with red lips & it's growing on me for everything else.

I was always taught that you wore lip liner with red lipsticks (pretty much the only makeup rule my mum had after "don't get cheap quality makeup") but lip liner with everything else wasn't really a thing. Recently though I've started using it with other lip colours & I've been really liking it.
My favourite red lip liner is MAC's lip liner in brick which gets kind of overshadowed by MAC cherry lip liner but is - to my mind - a much better colour being a lot richer & deeper as far as reds go.

Question 7: Best Gloss

Urban Decay Stardust Lipgloss in Space Cowboy & Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Enchant

I'm not really a big lip gloss person which I possibly why I both of mine are discontinued.
The Urban Decay Stardust Lipgloss in Space Cowboy is/was a super cute barely there, incredibly glittery & minty lipgloss. The closest to this I could think of is the Bobbi Brown Crystal Glitter Gloss which is nice but comes in a squeezy tube not a bottle with a brush.... Plus the Urban Decay one is holographic
The Illamasqua gloss is like a my lips but better gloss that's kind of got a little bit of shimmer, it's a teeny tiny bit, just enough to make your lips look really pretty. Illamasqua doesn't do this shade anymore, although they do other neutral shades the closest to this colour I can think of is one of the Urban Decay Naked Glosses.

Question 8: Something Extra

Estee Lauder All Day Lipstick (a.k.a. my first lipstick) & Rouge Dior 961 Nocturne (the one with the story)

Okay, so the Estee Lauder Lipstick was one I stole out of my mum's makeup bag that I wore all the way down to the stub, I used every tiny bit of that lipstick & when I went to re-purchase it I was pretty sure that they wouldn't even make it anymore because it had to have been nearly 10 years since my Mum had purchased it (that's not gross, makeup lasts a lot longer than people act like it does) but they had it & it still came in exactly the same packaging & everything - it's the gold bullet.
This lipstick isn't quite so easy to find anymore but you can get it on the Estee Lauder website if you are interested.
When I first started using it the colour was maybe half a shade darker than my natural lip colour & my favourite my lips but better. Now it is too dark to me a my lips but better colour. I hold onto it from sentimentality though, I would really like to be able to wear this again....

The Rouge Dior lipstick was limited edition one Christmas that saw on a blog around New Year & decided I would like but it was already sold out pretty much everywhere. My mum eventually managed to track it down on some small online boutique after hours of searching & it turned out not to be quite the colour I thought it was (it's more a berry than the red that was suggested) as is about right. It's an interesting shade though, a slightly sheeny, glittery, iridescent berry red shade.

Anyway, that's the end of this lip addict tag. I tag three of my favourite Leeds bloggers:

LozzyLovesLippy
Music & Eyeliner
Satchels & Pearls

    1. I should have tagged you in this! I'd have loved to see the vintage-y lip colours in your collection.
You have to do this tag as your next video! (not like actually *have* to but it would be cool if you did)

  2. I knew you would have liked it ^^
The way you did the swatches is so creative and classy, love it!
I should definitely search more information about that Hourglass lipstick, I heard good things about the opaque ones but I have to say I'm more keen on the traditional lipsticks...

    1. Thank you :)
I have to agree, traditional lipsticks just have something about them that other formulas just can't beat :)
